A Pathway No One New Was There

Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters – a pathway no one knew was there! Psalms 77:19

When God delivered the children of Israel from Egypt, they found themselves trapped between a sea on one side and an army on the other. There was no means of escape, as far as the human eye could see anyway.

This was their moment. Their first taste of freedom. But instead of celebration, panic, fear and regret have moved in. This was not what they planned. Did they make a mistake? Will they die in the wilderness? They should never have agreed to come in the first place. Their triumphant exit from Egypt has turned into a panic-stricken, dream-crushing, disparaging moment…from what they could see. But what they couldn’t see was what was hidden beneath the sea. It was a pathway God had made for them, one they didn’t know existed until God parted the waters.

What I’m Learning

Circumstances can change quickly. Triumphant moments can turn into panic-inducing, anxiety-filled nightmares in an instant. The future looks scary and ready to drown us. We have no idea how we’re going to make it through, the situation looks hopeless. Yet even in the midst of such dire circumstances, we always have hope because God has made a pathway for us. Underneath the pain, underneath the trauma, and underneath the circumstances that seem unyielding, God has made a way out. It may not be visible at the moment but it’s there, waiting to be revealed. God is the master of making pathways we can’t see and leading us through roads that we don’t know exist.
