I want to remind you that our hope and confidence doesn’t come from external circumstances. It doesn’t come from bank accounts, physical health, clean and organized homes, success or popularity. Although they disguise themselves as the answer to our problems and try to convince us this is true. It’s an illusion.
True peace comes from God. This is common knowledge for believers of Jesus Christ; however, belief isn’t tested until we go through difficult situations. I know some people who’ve been dealing with a lot of heavy stuff. It’s been going on for years. A lot longer than anyone ever imagined. Hope has become so fragile that even the hint of bad news will shatter it. But it’s faith that has bore the brunt of the storm. It’s worn and in tatters. Even though they haven’t walked away from the faith, they’re not actively pursuing their relationship with God either. They’re stuck in a lukewarm state of belief and doubt, giving God the cold shoulder.
For those in this situation, the biggest mistake is apathy. Stay strong! Keep fighting! Keep trusting! And above all keep pursuing God. He has never abandoned anyone who has trusted in Him.
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
