Biography
Interesting facts about Julie
- She and her husband met at church
- They were married for 8 years before having kid
- She always wanted to have 6 kids, 3 boys, and 3 girls. She is one boy shy of that dream
- Her oldest daughter got married recently
- Currently, she’s working on rounding up all her kids to try and get a family photo before the Christmas holidays (I interviewed Julie before the holidays. I’m happy to report she was able to get everyone together for a family picture.)
Captained a ship
Julie once had an opportunity to go to Nevis which is an island south of Saint Kitts. While there, she and her group of friends not only got to board a schooner but were assigned different tasks to do on the boat. She got the coveted job of being on the helm and actually steering the boat, although she didn’t know that was what she was doing at the time. But for several minutes Julie captained the ship.
Fangirled over an Elvis impersonator
She used to be part of a motorcycle group that was associated with the church she was attending at the time. They would ride together as a group and take trips. One time they went to see an Elvis impersonator show.
At the show, Julie and a friend pretended to fangirl over the impersonator. They screamed ‘Elvis’ while running towards the stage, the same way girls used to react to the real Elvis when he performed his shows. The impersonator played along while her husband and the group of friends they were with were shocked.
Came close to falling over a cliff
One time when Julie and her family were on their way to Arizona, an unexpected blizzard met them on the highway. The truck in front of them brakes. Julie, who was driving the minivan, lightly taps her brakes as well. Only to have the van spin out of control, spinning towards the middle of the highway first and then spinning back and sliding dangerously close to the edge of the cliff. Terrified, Julie screams out for Jesus. The van immediately stops, miraculously facing the right direction. As if it was picked up from one spot and placed in another. Julie describes it as ‘a complete miracle!’
Almost burned the house down
For Christmas one year, Julie wanted to make the tree extra festive. So she strung lights on the base of the faux Christmas tree and covered it up with fake snow. The lights shone through the faux snow and it looked gorgeous!
At the end of the holiday season when they went to take the tree down, they realized the lights on the base of the tree had burned the floor. But it wasn’t until they changed the floors that they saw how deep it had burned. Miraculously, it didn’t spread any further.
Going through a crazy season
It’s been a crazy, hectic season for Julie. Her father passed away unexpectedly in 2022 and she’s been having to deal with that. She had already been driving back and forth from Oklahoma to Arizona before he passed. But now she’s also had to move her mother to Oklahoma to be closer to family. Her mother is battling dementia and can’t be living on her own. It’s been a hard transition for her mother, losing her husband, adjusting to living in a residential facility, and moving to a new state. And it’s been Julie who’s had to deal with all that.
Her goal
Julia’s goal in telling her story is to shed some light on the rare genetic disorder her kids have and then to testify how Jesus is more than enough to help get through any season of life. She hopes her story encourages others to take risks and step out in faith knowing God is more than enough to meet all our needs.
