I’ve been reflecting on God’s goodness lately and thinking about all the ways He’s blessed my life. In fact, I have a Book of Remembrance where I write down all the times God has answered prayers, performed a miracle or just kept us safe. There are so many ways He shows me His love and I don’t want to forget it. Yet at the same time, I’ve learned how quickly it is to forget. Or worse, how easily I’ve talked myself out of believing it was God working. That’s why I write it down. It ensures I never forget. And as an added bonus, it serves as a record of God’s faithfulness for future generations.
Where I find this the most helpful is when I’m going through a season of waiting. I can handle delays that are days, months or even a couple of years. Although it’s hard I endure it, but waiting several years gets old pretty fast. Turns out I don’t like waiting that long. I get impatient and antsy. And I start questioning everything and wondering where God is. Then I get mad because things aren’t happening as quickly as I hoped. And it’s a constant battle to keep my mind focused on what is good or be drowned in a vortex of discouragement and discontent.
But when I take time to reflect on God’s goodness and His faithfulness it fights the restlessness. Reminding myself of all the ways God’s worked in my life shifts my mind from impatience to praise. It’s simple and so affective. And it works for all seasons not just seasons of waiting.
Next steps
Set aside a few minutes to reflect on God’s goodness, faithfulness, and mercy in your life. Write whatever comes to mind. Use it as your anchor when you’re going through difficult seasons. It can ground and prevent you from drifting while you’re weathering storms, waiting for answers or overcoming challenges.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Ps 100:5 NLT
