Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Judges 6:14
This is what the angel of the LORD said to Gideon as he was threshing wheat in a winepress in an attempt to hide it from the Midianites.
It’s a short, simple verse. Yet it’s so important to remember. Especially when we’re setting goals, pursuing dreams, or overcoming obstacles. It’s a reminder we don’t need to have it all figured out. In fact, there will be times when we don’t know what we’re doing and that’s okay. God isn’t asking us to be perfectionists. He’s asking us to be ourselves.
After all, God didn’t tell Gideon to get battle training first or read books about effective defense strategies. He told him to go out and fight the Midianites just as he was. Ill-equipped, unqualified, and afraid. God didn’t make Gideon into someone he wasn’t. Neither did he ask him to be like somebody else. Instead, all He asked of Gideon was to take the first step.
Honestly, sometimes the biggest obstacle between us and our goals is taking the first step.
So when we’re facing obstacles that seem insurmountable. Or pursuing dreams that seem unreachable. Remember the simple truth God told Gideon, go in the strength you have.
God isn’t asking us to do the impossible. That’s His specialty. All He asks of us is to go in the strength we have. That’s all. Nothing more. Ultimately, God’s the one sending you. Rest in the fact He knows what He’s doing.
