These are my attempts to get a decent picture of my son and me. I’m sure I have a professional picture of us but my husband has it stored in some drive… somewhere and he’s out of town. So I took matters into my own hands. After all, how hard is it to get a good picture? If you’ve seen what I posted here you know it’s beyond my capabilities.
I’m going to share my photo outtakes. I omitted a few where…my son wasn’t interested in getting his picture taken and…my other two kids were doing who knows what in the background. Seriously, how old are they?!
But here’s the rest, enjoy!
My first attempt
I’m trying to figure out how to hold the phone so both my son and I can be in the frame. I’m totally oblivious the picture is blurry and too busy trying to get the shot I don’t notice what’s happening behind me.
My other son and my daughter (whose rabbit ear fingers are proudly displayed in the background) decided to photobomb. Just goes to show no matter how old your kids are, they are not above being silly in other people’s pictures. Clearly, they take after their mother.
This is my kids ‘Obviously, I don’t love my mother’ picture.
My second attempt
I’ve kicked my other two out of the shot. Now they’re pretending to be offended and decide to take selfies of each other, loudly proclaiming they don’t want ME in THEIR pictures.
I’m still figuring out how to angle my phone so my son is in the frame. While at the same time, trying not to pay attention to the crazy antics of my other two.
This is my ‘Why can’t I get my son in the frame?!’ look.
My third attempt
I finally realize the picture was blurry and clean the lens.
My son is getting a little bored at this point and I’ve just noticed the state of my hair for the first time. I ignore it, happy that my son is almost in the frame.
This is my ‘What on earth is going on with my hair?!’ look.
My fourth attempt
My fifth attempt
Thought I had a winner here, but my son not only moves but decides to go ‘pffff’ as soon as I clicked the button.
Why?? I don’t know! He takes after his father.
This is my son’s ‘Why is she making me do this? I’ll show her! Pffff!’ look.
The final picture
And here’s the final product. The picture is still blurry, my hair’s still a hot mess, there’s glare on my son’s glasses and he moved slightly when I took the picture. But…we’re both in the frame, both looking at the camera, both smiling and there are no other persons in the background. That’s as good as it’s gonna get in my book.
This is our ‘Yay, we did it!’ look.
What have I learned?
1) Just because you can take a picture doesn’t mean you should.
2) Don’t take spontaneous pictures.
3) Kick your other kids out of the house so they’re not a distraction. Otherwise, you may wind up taking several pictures of them photobombing with goofy expressions.
4) Make sure your camera lens is clean BEFORE taking the picture.
5) Your tee shirt isn’t the best tool to effectively clean the camera lens.
6) Take time to fix your hair BEFORE taking pictures.
7) Or fix your hair as soon as you realize it’s a hot mess. The camera will NOT magically make it look good.
8) Don’t randomly keep taking pictures hoping one will turn out good when you did nothing to fix any of your previous mistakes. Again the camera doesn’t correct for stupidity.
9) Most importantly, in your goal to get a good picture of you and your son, please don’t forget to notice he’s wearing his shirt inside out BEFORE taking the picture.
