Mother of a person with a disability was a title I never thought I would have bestowed on me. I had many reasons why I was unqualified for the job. The biggest being that I could not be the parent my child would need; I would fail him. What I didn’t know was that God had begun laying the building blocks in me, He had and was creating me to be the exact parent my son would need. I had everything my son would need to thrive and I don’t need to be anybody else, my son needs me to be me.
Father, thank you for making me who I am. I may not be the perfect parent and there will be times I have no idea what I am doing or even what my next steps should be. But I know you have blessed me with my son for a reason. Out of all the people in the world, you chose me to be his mother which means you have already equipped me to accomplish this task and will continue to equip me in the future. Endow me with the wisdom, patience, grace and love I need because it can only come from you. I can not do this without your guidance. Help me continue to trust you as you lead me to be the best parent I can be. I pray in all things, I will model and reflect your character to my child. Give me the grace I need to forgive myself for those days when I mess up and help me always keep my eyes fixed on you, knowing you will never give up on me or my child. Thank you for always guiding, leading and directing my steps. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
